In the Raven Trilogy, thrilling adventures, complex characters, and epic worlds come together to captivate fantasy readers of all ages. Yet behind these epic battles and two companions lies something more than mere entertainment.

I wrote the Raven Saga because I am convinced—truly believe—that its protagonists, Sam and Marasco, are more important today than ever.

Sam is the one who wants to help, who seeks change and is willing to risk everything for it. He performs a ritual without knowing what awaits him. The outcome is not what he hoped for—but he keeps fighting. On and on.

Marasco, on the other hand, is estranged from his true self. Marked by experiences that have broken him. He has given up, yet even death is denied to him. His greatest lesson is learning that accepting help is not a weakness—because sooner or later, every one of us needs it.

What binds the two of them is more than friendship.

It is something far deeper, something that reaches back to the roots.

They could not be more different, and yet they are close—connected.

They fight for each other, even if they are not on the same side.

I believe there is a Sam and a Marasco in every one of us.

And if we learned to fight not against each other, but for one another, our world could become a better place.
